Fashion trends of 2016

Hi everyone Spring is almost here so we thought it was time to take a look towards the trends of this year! Today we want to share some of the biggest fashion trends of this year with you. From the trendcolors (according tot Pantone) to a couple of must-follow trends, we will tell you all about them! Here we go!

Trendcolors of the year 2016

Every year Pantone picks the trendcolors of a year. Well in this case 2016 is a special year as for the first time ever Pantone picked out not one but two trendcolors!

This year Rose Quartz (a soft and warm pastel pink color) and Serenity (a cool, tranquil color) are chosen as the colors of the year. Inspired by gender neutrality and the fading lines between male and female, but also inspired by the wellness trends within lifestyle, Pantone decided to pick this specific color combination.

“Joined together, Rose Quartz and Serenity demonstrate an inherent balance between a warmer embracing rose tone and the cooler tranquil blue, reflecting connection and wellness as well as a soothing sense of order and peace.” – According to Leatrice Eiseman, executive director at Pantone.

Trendy items

Ever since last season we are slowly saying goodbye to the skinny jeans and the slimmer fit of our clothes. The flared jeans and the bootcut are back and here to stay! In the upcoming season we will see this trend growing to a more wide and loose fit within other items of our wardrobes as well. From a palazzo pants (a long wide pantalon with a loose fit, mostly made out of rich materials like velvet or wool), to culottes and oversized knit/sweaters dresses. This trend will only grow bigger and get more populair.

An other trend that has slowly gained more popularity is the lace-up trend. For the gents we have already seen this in the sweaters and jeans by Faith Connexion (on the sides towards the hemline). And for the ladies we see this trends in a lot of different items. From lace-up blouses like the ones by Dodo Bar Or, in knitwear but also in dresses and flared jeans. This trend is very versatile and can be seen in a lot of different items.

The trends described above are both influenced a lot by the style and fashion from the seventies. This overall trend is sometimes called the modern seventies. Other trends within this image are the use of rich materials like suede and velvet, mixing of different prints, chiffon dresses and bomber jacks from for example Mongolian fur. Besides this the modern seventies trend also has a diverse color palette. From rich neutrals to Hermes-Orange.

As mention in an earlier blogpost (read it here) the pastel trend is here to stay as well. This of course is a bit of obvious as the trend colors mentioned above are both pastels as well. The pastel trend has started a couple of seasons ago and I don’t think this trend is going anywhere anytime soon! In our new collection we see pastels a lot in the designs by Valentino, Chloé and the blouses from Vince.
